The Spanish Minister of Industry and Tourism visits Teknia’s new electrification project in Cantabria

- Teknia’s plant in Ampuero is leading one of the Group’s most significant projects, with a record investment of €6 million
- The project involves the production of a housing for a current inverter used in several electric vehicle models from a major European OEM
- The project has received support from the Ministry of Industry and Tourism through the PERTE VEC III programme
Ampuero, 27 June 2025 – Teknia, a multinational company specialising in the manufacture of metal and plastic components for mobility, welcomed the visit of the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, to its production facilities in Ampuero (Cantabria). The Minister had the opportunity to see first-hand the company’s new production lines, where the Group manufactures a housing for a current inverter—a key component in electric vehicle electrification.
The component is produced using high-pressure die casting (HPDC) technology, which is gaining prominence in electric vehicles due to the need to reduce vehicle weight. This new project positions Teknia’s plant in Cantabria as a benchmark for electric vehicle component manufacturing.
This innovative project also represents the largest single business win in Teknia’s history. With an overall investment of more than €6 million —the highest ever made by the company for a single project— it significantly expands the plant’s industrial capabilities and is expected to increase its turnover by 30%. The project is also supported by the Ministry of Industry, receiving €1.6 million in funding—split between a loan and a grant—through the PERTE VEC III programme.
The project is being developed at Teknia’s Ampuero plant thanks to its strong technical expertise in HPDC technology. This in-depth know-how has enabled the plant to take on such a strategic project and to further strengthen its role as a key centre for the Group’s electrification component manufacturing.
Teknia currently operates two production plants in Ampuero: one specialising in aluminium die casting and the other in bar machining. Together, both facilities employ 300 people and generated a combined turnover of €41 million in 2024, underscoring their role in local job creation and economic development.
For Jordi Hereu, Minister of Industry and Tourism, this project “is a clear example of a company firmly committed to innovation and leadership in the transition towards more sustainable, connected and efficient mobility.” In his words, “we are at a pivotal moment in which electrification is the cornerstone of transformation, and Spain is poised to become a key player in this field with the support of companies like Teknia.”
Javier Quesada de Luis, CEO of Teknia, added: “Public-private collaboration is essential to drive industrial innovation in Spain, particularly in the automotive industry, which is undergoing a rapid transformation. Projects like this allow us to create opportunities with a direct impact on the region. This major investment in Ampuero positions the town as a reference point for the production of components for new mobility, both in Spain and across Europe.”
